Building Envelope Commisioning

In this adaptive reuse project, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens transformed a utilitarian public works garage into a state-of-the-art, LEED Platinum certified and Living Building Challenge targeted exhibit workshop and employee amenity facility.

BPA’s envelope commissioning role in this project was instrumental, because the Living Building Challenge requires all energy used by the building to be generated on-site; if the building envelope had not achieved the required level of performance, it might not have been possible to put enough solar panels on the project site to compensate.

BPA’s envelope commissioning services spanned from envelope design details review, to submittal reviews, field quality control observations, and envelope air and water leakage testing.
