ENERGY STAR Certification and HERS Rating
The U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR program includes tracks for non-residential buildings, large multifamily buildings, and homes. While somewhat less rigorous than passive building certification, ENERGY STAR is based on decades of scientific and market research, and has served as the foundation for several other programs. When your building is ENERGY STAR certified, you will have thermal comfort, fresh air, and good lighting, as well as energy and water savings. The residential ENERGY STAR tracks also provide quality control for building envelope and HVAC system construction, and utilize the Home Energy Rating System (HERS). BPA’s staff includes certified HERS Raters, Multifamily New Construction Verifiers, and licensed professionals.
